This novel comes straight from the heart, soul, and experience of Elisabeth Grace Daniel, who is a post-abortive woman.  After struggling with Post-Abortion Stress for many years before being set free, her passion since has been to connect with and bring hope to those facing similar circumstances today.  To this end, Elisabeth has worked tirelessly for the past thirteen years.  She first began working as a lay-counselor with her local Christian Pregnancy Help Center.  She then began to give her testimony in churches, and on television.  At the same time, she began working to pass legislation in her state that would protect not only the unborn but also their mothers.  She has spent seven years penning “Reconciled,” in hopes of reaching those whom she would otherwise never reach in person.  Elisabeth is a full-time wife and mother of two teenagers.

As a post-abortive woman healed by God’s grace, I have been privileged to serve as a lay-counselor and public speaker on behalf of the unborn and their mothers for the past eleven years. I’ve also developed sermons for ministers, given television interviews, and testified before my state’s House and Senate Committees in an effort to enforce pro-life legislation.

The guilt and shame that often accompanies an unplanned pregnancy can be overwhelming, especially to the Christian population. Often, young couples think that they can hide the sin of premarital sex by having an abortion, thus restoring their lives and reputations back to normalcy. At least that’s what the abortion industry wants them to believe. Abortion is touted by the industry as a quick fix, a simple solution that is easy to obtain, a viable alternative to a crisis pregnancy. One quick phone call, often made in a panicked state, is all it takes to secure an abortion in America.

In a society which doesn’t typically condone murder, it is difficult for some women to understand that abortion does involve the taking of a human life. For many, this revelation will come as a result of experiencing the procedure itself, but by then it is too late. A precious life is gone forever, often creating further emotional turmoil for the mother that can take years to overcome, often resulting in what is now called Post-Abortion Stress.

Though written as a novel, the characters and plotline in this book are based on my own life experience, as well as the collective experience I’ve gained as a lay-counselor in my local Christian Pregnancy Help Center. Though technically fiction, the purpose of this book is to educate the public on the topic of abortion by allowing them to vicariously experience the pressures involved in an unplanned pregnancy, and the pain of the post-abortive in a non-threatening format.

The Christian Pregnancy Help Center ministers to the character of Sarah as she experiences a crisis pregnancy at the age of nineteen. Sarah and her boyfriend, Mark, both believe that having an abortion is in their best interest at this point in their lives, that is, until Sarah visits the “Center” and is confronted with truth by a counselor named Cathy, and a volunteer named Lauren. Will the information gleaned from the Center affect Sarah’s decision making process, or will she go ahead and have the abortion?

In Beverly’s character we are exposed to the pain of the post-abortive, who are often locked in a private world of suffering and shame which can disconnect them from the God they so desperately need. If murder is the ultimate sin, how will Beverly ever forgive herself? Will the pain ever go away? How can she ever reconcile the matter with God, her husband, and also face the birth of her first grand child?

Through Lauren’s determination to accept the forgiveness Christ died to give her, we are presented with an example of what it takes to walk in grace. Though Lauren struggles from time to time, she will ultimately follow God’s will for her life, sharing her testimony in an effort to save others from making the same mistakes that she did. How will her witness affect those in her family, in her church? How will she face her children with the revelation of her previous abortion?

Watch as the decisions that each woman makes ripples into the lives of the others around her, how God can move in the midst of a crisis, and how the truth of God’s word can both protect and restore human life.
